Communicating with Other Chihuahua Owners
Owning a Chihuahua is an experience that can be both joyful – and frustrating. For this reason, having access to other Chihuahua owners can be quite helpful. You can share your joys, sorrows, and frustrations, and learn valuable information that may help you to care for your Chihuahua more effectively. You can also share information with other owners which may be just as beneficial to them.
You may already know other Chihuahua owners, but it never hurts to widen your network. Start by asking your breeder about other Chihuahua owners. They may or may not give you the contact information for other owners, but they will certainly take your information, and share it with others at your request.
Attend dog shows in your area. This is an excellent way to meet other owners and breeders, and to learn more about this special breed of dogs. Bring a pad of paper with you and a pen to take down names and numbers. Consider having some cards made up with your contact information to hand out as well.
Join local dog clubs, especially those that are specific to Chihuahuas. Attend meetings and bring your dog with you. These clubs often host days in the park and things of this nature so that the dogs can see each other as well as the owners.
Check into online forums. This puts you in touch with an entire world of Chihuahua owners, and it is a great way to quickly get and give information about your beloved Chihuahua. Some of the more popular Chihuahua forums can be found at http://www.clubchi.com/, http://chihuahuatalk.com/, and http://www.gochihuahua.com/forums.htm.
Join a Chihuahua email list. These are usually fairly active and lively email lists, where all members can communicate with all of the other members – with one simple email. There are numerous lists out there, but the most popular list for Chihuahuas is CHIHUA-L. This can be accessed through your news reader, and you can contact your ISP for more information regarding your news services.
Communicate as much as possible with other Chihuahua owners. Again, this is the best way to learn more about your own Chihuahua’s habits and behavior, and a great way to get support from those who truly understand what you are going through and how you feel about it. Being a Chihuahua owner is rewarding, but it does have its trials, and communicating with other owners who have faced those same trials is the best way to cope.
