If you have a Chihuahua, or you are planning on getting a Chihuahua, in many cases, you must also consider the effect that your Chihuahua will have on your neighbors. This is especially true in the case of apartment living, or in the case of neighborhoods where the yards and houses are situated closely.

The fact is that most Chihuahuas like to bark, and they have high pitched barks. In most cases, they don’t just bark a little bit…they bark excessively, and it takes work to train them to stop barking on your command. This is especially important if, for some reason, you intend to keep your Chihuahua outdoors. This isn’t recommended, due to the lack of safety for these tiny dogs – but if the dog will be outdoors, he could be an irritation to your neighbors.

Consider how you would feel if you had to listen to that barking all night every night and it kept you awake. You wouldn’t like it, and your neighbors won’t like it either. In most places, there are laws about dogs that bark incessantly, and you could be fined. At the worst, the city could force you to find a new home for your beloved Chihuahua if you cannot control his barking.

You must also consider neighborhood children if you’re Chihuahua will be outdoors. Chihuahuas don’t have much tolerance for children, and most children don’t understand how vicious that cute, tiny dog can be. This could result in an injured child, an injured dog, and/or lawsuits from angry parents. In some cases, it could result in a court order to have the dog put down.

If your Chihuahua will be an indoor dog, and you live in an apartment complex, your neighbors will most likely be able to hear his barking. Just because the barking doesn’t bother you, this doesn’t mean that it won’t bother your neighbors. This is definitely something to consider before you acquire a Chihuahua.

If the Chihuahua is an indoor dog, and you properly train him to obey your commands, there shouldn’t be any problems with your neighbors. Before you acquire the Chihuahua, let your neighbors know that you are getting one, and that you will do all that you can to control him and his barking. In many cases, they will be patient with you and your barking Chihuahua while you teach him not to disturb the neighbors.
