A pekingese is a social creature; this means it must be an active part of the family. It also needs other pekingese to be interactive with if at all possible.

Contrary to some rumors pekingese are very active little creatures. They want to play and interact with others.
A pekingese will not just lie around and be lazy all the time. There are those pekingese that do enjoy laying around, for the most part they are the older ones.

The younger more active pekingese are almost constantly on the go, playing with their toys or other Pekingese's.

A pekingese in a family setting that has no other pekingese, but only family members will need to be involved with those members. In whatever activity is going on at the time, from the family sitting around watching a movie on television. To the whole family gathered in the back yard for a reunion are just a weekend Bar-B-Q. The pekingese needs the stimulation and touch of the members involved. Other wise the pekingese will become anxious and or depressed, feeling left out.

With the members of the family all paying attention to as well as playing with the pekingese it should be well socialized. A pekingese loves to meet new people and experience new and exciting things. Sometimes toys and play are just not enough. These family gatherings and events can give give the pekingese the stimulation it needs to stay alert and healthy.

Other pekingese can be important to a pekingese as well; this gives them someone of their own kind to interact with. They can be themselves and be a dog. They will play together like dogs do, not as they play with people.

It is important for a pekingese to be a dog, after all that is what they are. Dogs chew on other pekingese as they play,they play bite as well. Pekingese will dig some not as much as other dog breeds.

Most Pekingese do not dig at all. Pekingese love to run they need a lot of room to do so. It is a natural instinct of dogs to run this is good for them to do. A pekingese will bark while playing with other pekingese this is how they communicate, and they are very verbal while playing, barking or growling.
