For example; there was a pekingese that survived the titanic shipwreck he and his owner were on lifeboat number three. There are many tales, stories and legends as to how the pekingese became to be upon the earth, the most famous told story goes as follows. A young brave lion fell in love with a marmoset monkey, the both of them knew the union was not possible because of the difference in size.

Therefore the great lion went to the great God Budda and asked a favor. That he and his love be granted change in size so they might be together. Budda granted their wishes. The result of the union was and is the pekingese of ancient times and the present day. The pekingese breed has been around for over two thousand years.

There are many other stories and beliefs regarding origin of the pekingese however the stories nearly all involve a great lion. This is believed to be where the pekingese got the great main that form around it neck and chest. As in fact it does resemble the main of a lion, upon close examination.

The pekingese breed is truly an interesting creature; it has its place in the pages of human history. As well as a secure place in the future pages that have not come to pass.
