Pekingese Babies
Pekingese Babies
Pekingese babies are so small when they are born. You can hold each and every one of them all at the same time. Watching baby Pekingese is a joy to see. It is recommended that you find a really big box; this will be where the puppies will be born.
Lay down a lot of newspaper in the bottom of the box. Now cut a hole in the side of the box, which will allow the mother or dam to get water and food.
Make sure that she knows the box is for her, by putting her in it. If another dog has been in the box she will have puppies all over the house. During birth you should stay with your Pekingese, because if something goes wrong you can kind of help her.
Be sure as to keep other pets away while this magical moment is taken place. Having other dogs around may distract her, leading to complications at birth. Watch this beautiful display as Mother Nature takes its course.
There will not be much clean up for you to do, because the mother Pekingese will eat everything. They do this to keep predators away; this is also instinct and past down through generations of Pekingese from log ago.
Now that you have a new batch of Pekingese puppies, you have a full time job on your hands. There will be about a six-week wait before you will have to step in and intervene. You will need to worm the babies at the first two to three weeks. Once the babies have been weaned, you will be taking over the role as momma. You will make what is called by breeders puppy mush; this will consist of a powdered milk formula. You will be able to find this at your nearest feed store. Also use a small amount of canned dog food.
After they have been weaned they will need their first shots at the age of six to eight weeks. First worming has to be done at about two to three weeks of age. A store bought medicine is fine until they get old enough to go to the vet.
Their first vet visit should be between six to eight weeks. After all this is done you can take over the role of bathing you Pekingese. This can be done in your kitchen sink, that way they will not be able to jump out.
Many people just go to the vet and the vet will give you some shampoo to bath your dog with, for flea or skin problems on your Pekingese.
There are also dog grooming places you can take your dog. Other than that it will be up to you to buy all of the things your Pekingese will need.
Babies are really fun to watch while they are small, because they are just learning everything. Things are new to them and they will be into everything. You may want to set up a certain room up for them all to live in and train them to use puppy pads or newspapers.
This way you will not have to clean up little messes all over the house, you will just have to pick up one room. This will save you on house cleaning time.
