Pekingese Breeding

Pekingese Pekingese Breeding

Breeding Pekingese is fairly easy; however this should only be done if there is a genuine need for the puppies. Responsible breeders will only breed their Pekingese females in such cases as follows. You want to have a list of people waiting for the puppies when they are born. There are far too many unwanted pets in the world.

Your females will come into season or heat twice a year. The Pekingese should not be allowed to breed both times. As this will cause a poor quality of puppy, the females need time and rest to rebuild there bodies.

A female's body looses precious calcium and nutrients to produce milk for her puppies. So she should be allowed ample time and rest to recuperate.

When you choose to breed your female she needs to be watched to see when she comes into season. You can get a general ideal of when this will be because the females come in every six months or so. When she does come into season she will stay in for several weeks. At this time she will need to be put into the pen of the male of your choice.

She should remain in the pen with the male for the duration of the heat cycle. The reason for a separate pen is you do not want them to be distracted. Also you do not want several different males to get to and breed with the same female. Once she is finished with her cycle you should give her a daily vitamin supplement, this will help her body keep from loosing valuable nutrients she needs and it will help the developing puppies inside her.

You will want to have several things on hand for the delivery of the puppies. These things can come in handy: scissors, paper towels, waste basket with liner, clean old towels or sheets (will be disposed of), plastic gloves, alcohol.

You may have to assist the female especially if this is a first littler. The scissors are for cutting the cord; paper towels are for drying and cleaning the puppies and drying them off.

The wastebasket is for disposal of the afterbirth, if the female does not take care of this. The old sheets are for laying the puppy on when cutting the cord, to soak up any blood. The alcohol needs to be put around the cord area this will dry it you can use iodine if you do not have any alcohol.

When she is close to the delivery date you will need to introduce her to her nesting box. A female will carry her young for thirty- three to thirty- six days. This box is the places where she will have the puppies. You will want to stay close for the delivery; however the room needs to be quiet and calm so the female Pekingese can concentrate on the delivery. Any delivery is difficult. She will need to rest in between contractions.

You will be close incase you need to help her with something.

When pairing your Pekingese you want the best males and females together. The ones who have all of the traits of the true Pekingese, this will ensure good quality puppies. You may also want to breed for a specific size of Pekingese. So you would put the two that are about the same size and weight together. You should never pair a male full size with a female toy size; this can injure the female if the male is too large. Please always be a responsible breeder do not breed unwanted puppies make sure you have a good home for them before they are born.
