Keeping your fish healthy is the most effective way to make sure that your pet enjoys a long life. There are many things that can cause disease in your fish. Stress, bacteria, parasites, chemicals, and poor water conditions can all cause disease in your fish. The best way that you can ensure that your Tetras enjoy good health is to make sure that you do everything you can to prevent disease in your pets.
The first thing that you can do to make sure that your fish have the best living conditions possible is to make sure that all the mechanical equipment is properly functioning every day. Check the filter systems and make sure that they are running smoothly. Check to make sure that there is a proper water flow. If you notice anything unusual, make sure that you take care of it right away. Poor water flow can cause the chemical balance in the water to be disturbed.
Make sure that you monitor the water temperature. A fluctuation in the water temperature more than a few degrees can lead to serious health problems. If something is wrong with the temperature in your tank, make sure that you check the water heater.
Make sure that you are cleaning the tank on a regular basis. You need to make sure that you are doing at least a partial cleaning every week. A weekly vacuuming of the gravel in the bottom of the aquarium is usually enough to help keep the water clear. If necessary, make sure that you use an algae scraper in order to clean the side of the tank as well.
It is very important that you observe your fish every day. Daily observation will make it possible for you to know what the normal behaviors are for your fish. If you know what the normal behaviors and appearance for your fish are, it will be very easy for you to notice when something is wrong.
Some of the common symptoms of dropsy include a swollen body, scales that are protruding, and a fish that looks like a pin cushion. There are several causes for dropsy. Dropsy is a condition that is the result of organ failure. This organ failure can be due to cancer, old age, or pour water conditions. It is very important that you keep the water in your tank clean and with the proper chemical balance in order to ensure the proper health of your fish.
You will want to place any fish with dropsy into the quarantine tank. You will need to treat this condition with antibiotics that is given through medicated food. You can also notice improvements if you have better water quality through water changes. Complete recovery from dropsy is rare.
For the safety and well-being of the afflicted fish, it is better if you keep him isolated until he is no longer showing any symptoms. He may not pose any danger to the other fish, but it will be better for him to recover by himself.
