How to Spoil Your Gerbils

How to Spoil Your Gerbils

People have innovative strategies to keep their pets in a good mood, ranging from wacky ones like picking fleas from their back to the saner ones like talking them out for run at the local jogger's park.

Some spoil their dogs by giving them a beer bath once a week or satisfy their Garfield with his favorite plate of lasagna. Parrots are treated to a rare variety of spicy fruits or a mixture of exotic nuts, rabbits to a diet which comprises vegetables more than just the dangling carrot. But somewhere in all our attempts to please our pets, the gerbils get neglected because their popularity as a pet has just entered its fourth decade and not many people are aware of the methods of spoiling their gerbils.

If there is one thing on this planet which brings a smile to everybody's face is good food. Do don your gourmet's hat and come up with some special recipes for your pet. Some people take the shortcut route of purchasing ready made Premium Gerbil Food, but as a doting pet owner, you should always check the constituents of such packaged food. You should see to that they are not rich in fatty edibles like sunflower seeds or berries.

Buy a huge tank for your gerbil and its partner. Its average dimensions should be ten feet high by 15 feet wide by 16 feet long. Fill this tank with Timothy hay or wood shavings so that you gerbil has something to dig in or just rest on during its free time. Gerbils love to do this since by nature they are burrowers belonging to the Rodentia family.

Buy a piece of cubical marble and place it inside the tank. On it give the food and water. Keep in mind that only dechlorinated spring water is considered as healthy drinking water for gerbils,  feed your gerbils fresh veggies, organic food stuff and nuts. Look up other gerbil food guides on and off the internet, to consider what sort treats can be given to your pet. Gerbils' treat should not exceed ten percent of its daily food consumption.

Just feeding them would lend them a chubby appearance, so take them out every six ours for some exercises. You can arrange for the gerbil's exercise regime within its tank by providing it with a wheel (one that doesn't have serrated edges since their tail always poses the risk of getting caught in between the edges and being chopped off!) like a Silent Spinner Wheel, or even rolls of toilet paper. Gerbils love to chew stuff, so give them additional playthings like Hay and Honey house (an edible house) or edible wooden houses, pile of Timothy hay, several wooden blocks. Don't give those plastic toys or even plastic feeding bowls under any circumstance.

Get a ceramic bath-house for your pet and fill it with the top quality Aragonite sand. Gerbils love to sand bathe so as to keep their fur free from grease, so enable them to indulge in their favorite sport of cleaning their fur.
